The extensive redesign for 2011 adds to its sporty feel, while enhancing its upscale appearance. interior changes for 2011 include a new instrument panel design and a new center cluster. Leather-appointed seating surfaces are available along with a six-way power driver's seat and a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat. We found the cabin pleasant, with materials that would look good in higher-priced vehicles. In addition to the navigation system and rearview monitor, the rogue is available with nissan intelligent key, bluetooth, xm satellite radio and a powerful bose-developed audio system with seven speakers with woofer, aux input and mp3 playback. The sides, even those with chrome door handles and rub strips, are clean and smooth, with nothing to hide the clean lines. side mirrors are black on the rogue s and body color on the rogue sv. The standard wheels on the rogue s are stamped steel with plastic covers that look like five-spoke alloys from a distance. The 17-inch aluminum wheels that come with the rogue sv add a touch of drama, with five y spokes that seem to actively cling to the rim; 18-inch wheels are also available. The krom has a look all its own, still a rogue but more entertaining. we think the rogue looks best from the rear, where the dark rear glass, tapering taillights, rounded panels and license plate recess give it some definition. The rear liftgate lacks a separate opening glass but the hatch is not heavy and liftover not too high. among compact suvs, the rogue has a sleeker, car-based crossover look, like the cr-v, as opposed to the more-upright box-on-box look ford escape or jeep liberty. the rogue is among the longest vehicles in the class, though it doesn't look it. At 183 inches overall, it is even longer than the seven-passenger toyota rav4 and the bulkier-looking jeep liberty. interiorfor 2011, nissan rogue gets a new instrument panel and center stack and updated technology. The interior uses a simple, rounded design trimmed with quality materials. The dash, for instance, is molded in a soft-touch material that seems as if it might be right at home in an infiniti. The door tops also have a nice soft-touch material. The remainder of the materials is price-appropriate plastic that fits together well. the instrument panel features large, white-on-black tachometer and speedometer, with analog temperature and fuel conditions inset. Between the gauges is a digital display for trip computer data, outside temperature, gear selected, door-open warnings and so on. It has substantially sized buttons, and the presets are grouped in a, b, and c folders, each of which can mix radio bands; use the 18 presets as a group of six for three different drivers, locales, or attitudes. The center console has two integral cupholders and a small tray that will work for holding little odds and ends. If that's not enough, the console bin is very deep and is available with a removable tray to give it two levels of storage. The tilt steering wheel helps, and there is enough head for most adults and class-leading legroom. There is good visibility to the front and the side mirrors are large, but over-the shoulder visibility is compromised by a smallish rear window and rear side windows that are pinched at the rear. The ride height makes getting into and out of the rogue very easy. the second row is usefully roomy, with head and leg room that can accommodate adults, even with the front seats moved far back. Three adults in the rear will be cramped, but they should be able to deal with short trips. Toe space under the front seats is plentiful.

New compact sedan is gm's best ever. introductionthe new chevrolet cruze delivers almost everything we'd expect in a good compact sedan. It's the best small car gm has offered in north america in decades, by a substantial margin. launched as a 2011 model, the cruze replaces the sturdy but boring cobalt, and it's a great leap forward in technology, features and appeal. The cruze was developed jointly by gm tech centers in asia, europe and the united states to battle in the most crowded part of the passenger-car market, with excellent new competitors like the hyundai elantra and kia forte, the best volkswagen jetta in years, and perennial leaders like the honda civic, mazda 3, and toyota corolla. By the quality of materials, fit or function, it surpasses nearly all its competitors. Both the manual and automatic transmissions have six speeds, which is rare in this class. Across the line, the cruze averages some of the best epa mileage ratings among compacts. Its steering is powered by electricity to save fuel, and its sharp, with decent feel. Ride quality is outstanding, yet the car is nimble, balanced and handles exceptionally well. The chevrolet cruze might be the smoothest, quietest compact offered in the united states. For about $17,000 with destination charge, the base cruze ls comes nicely equipped, with as much horsepower as the higher-trim models, air conditioning, six-speaker audio with standard xm satellite radio and power windows and locks. There are knee-protection airbags for front passengers, side-impact airbags for rear passengers, and head-protection curtains with rollover deployment. Every cruze comes with gm's onstar telematics system, including a six-month subscription for automatic accident response and other services. the cruze eco delivers the best fuel economy. Nor will it inspire anything close to revulsion, or even distaste, in its beholders. Cruze styling is conservative, but it's also quite handsome and nicely proportioned. and large, as compact cars go. Measuring 181. 0 inches bumper-to-bumper, on a wheelbase of 105. 7 inches, the cruze is at least slightly larger car than nearly all of its competitors, including the honda civic, toyota corolla and the all-new 2012 ford focus. By wheelbase and width, the cruze is less than two inches smaller than some midsize sedans, including the ford fusion. many of the cruze's hidden design features have been adapted from larger, typically more expensive cars, intended to reduce the noise and vibration reaching those riding inside. There are nylon baffles in hollow portions of the steel body/frame structure, and sound-absorbing foam that expands in various cavities when the paint is baked on. The doors have triple sealing gaskets, with fiberglass liners that provide another barrier against water, airflow and noise, and they slam shut with a precise, satisfying thunk. in general, the cruze is more angular than other recent chevrolet sedans, including the popular malibu. Its front end mimics the volt plug-in sedan, no doubt deliberately, with a prominent chevrolet bowtie logo. The headlight housings are large, sweeping upward and around the front edges of the car. the roofline arcs subtly from its steeply raked windshield through fast-sloping rear pillars, creating a generally sporty profile. Its wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, with minimal overhang. No, this compact sedan doesn't break new ground or wow with its curves. But it's tidy and quite confidant looking, and the package generates a feeling of quality and solidity. Wheels range from 16-inch steel with plastic covers on the base ls to spoked 18-inch alloys with low-profile tires on the loaded ltz. the cruze eco is a slightly different beast, because it's designed to be chevrolet's conventional-engine fuel economy leader. The differences start with 42 steps intended to trim weight, right down the size and location of welds in the body. As a result, the eco tips the scales at 3,009 pounds, or 214 pounds less than the mid-level cruze lt. the eco also adds a host of aerodynamic tweaks, including some adapted from the volt plug-in. The mechanical design of the soul is similar to that of a small sedan. All models are front-wheel drive; no all-wheel drive is offered. 2013 kia soul models are distinguished from last year's models by new color and trim choices and some minor content changes. The kia soul debuted as a 2010 model. 2012 models brought new engines and freshened styling. two engines are offered. It's available with the 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, but this time the manual enjoys a slight fuel economy advantage, at 24/29 mpg vs. 23/28 mpg for the automatic. The upgrade 2. 0-liter engine delivers a bit more power, however, particularly important for the automatic, costs just slightly more and nearly matches the smaller engine in fuel economy. overall, we found the soul felt nimble and light, fun to drive. It rides like the other economy cars in its class. How many car makers can offer that?. lineupthe 2013 kia soul comes in three models: soul, soul+ (pronounced soul plus), and soul! (soul exclaim). kia soul 14,400) comes standard with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, black exterior trim, am/fm/siriusxm/cd/mp3 stereo, usb and auxiliary inputs, tilt/telescoping steering wheel with bluetooth and audio controls, 60/40 split folding rear seat, variable intermittent wipers, 15-inch alloy wheels. The primary option is a premium package 2,500) with navigation, rear camera, siriusxm traffic, leather seat trim, heated front seats, climate control, and push-button start/smart key. safety equipment on all models includes six airbags, active front headrests, latch seating system, electronic stability control, antilock brakes, and the mandated tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthe kia soul looks like it's wearing a pair of wraparound sunglasses. Because the rear windows are narrower than the front windows, there appears to be a downward rearward slope to the roof, but it's an illusion achieved by the rising beltline below the windows. There's a final and small third side window, an upside-down wedge to complete the shape. bold chiseled wheel arches give the soul strength. The corners are nicely rounded, erasing the hard corners of a box. The grille is small and tidy, the soul's mouth no bigger than needed to suck in air for the engine, and the lower bumper/air opening look is called tusk in-house. The front lighting elements are contemporary and stylish, even more so on the soul! Model that includes led running lamps and projector headlamps. a black horizontal ding strip on the doors doesn't do much for cleanliness, but adds to the strong straight-line styling and it serves a function. The 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels are larger than often available in this size and class of car. big vertical taillamps climb the rear pillars and project a feeling of safety. The wraparound configuration that appeared with the 2012 models makes it easy to draw a relation between the lights and the ears of a hamster like those in soul commercials. The liftgate and rear window are clean and smooth (and darkly cool when tinted), with an indented handle under a kia oval logo and a stylish chrome soul badge off to the side. All get the tusk bumper design, and the soul! It seems a little out of place when listening to talk radio, however. It's amusing in traffic jams. the front bucket seats are comfortable, good for long trips, and the interior vinyl and cloth trim is fine. There are bottle holders in the front door pockets plus cupholders in the console with its own deep compartment, a huge two-level glovebox, map nets on the front seatbacks, a trap-door compartment on the dash (that's molded so things don't slide around), and grab handles over every door. There are auxiliary audio, ipod, and usb port connections, and three 12-volt outlets on the soul+ and soul! the steering wheel is nice, with the usual standard controls the same colors as most cell phones. The three-ring instrument panel looks clean and uses an eave so the gauges are readable in the sun. The center stack is modest with business-like knobs and buttons. It accommodate the shifter and the optional uvo/microsoft entertainment system that includes a rear camera. Air conditioning proved very effective. the front seats offer plenty of room, including a full hand space over the head of six-plus-footers. The 60/40 rear seats drop flat in a heartbeat. There's an excellent compartment under the trunk floor, and below that a space-saver spare tire. Models with the 2. 0-liter engine and 6-speed automatics primarily. We haven't had a chance to test drive a base model with the 1. 6-liter engine, but given its ample 138 horsepower and six gears (with manual or automatic), few people should feel the need to step up to the soul+ or soul! For the more powerful 2. 0-liter engine. both engines feature direct fuel injection, for high-end power with good fuel economy while cruising. The 2. 0-liter engine makes 164 horsepower at 6500 rpm with a good 148 pound-feet of torque peaking at a fairly high 4800 rpm. This is more than adequate in a 2700-pound car. Indeed, the soul can keep up with traffic easily; many v8-powered full-size suvs are not demonstrably quicker. We found the clutch on earlier manual-transmission models to be smooth in operation, both from a standing start and while upshifting, and with six gears and ample torque we'd expect sprightly acceleration from even the 2013 base model.
